I use this everyday with the Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, which is very finicky about inexpensive microphones. I've tried several, and this CMTECK USB Mini Mic works the best, bar none. Most mics either work poorly, or not at all with this software application. This one works just great with both PCs and Macs and has other advantages. The biggest one is you don't have to wear anything to use it. There is none of that cheap foam padding found on inexpensive headset mics that wears out and falls off over time. It's very compact, so you can take it anywhere. It picks up your speech when you’re just sitting in your chair and the device is plugged into a laptop port, attached to your monitor with a bit of Velcro, or resting on your desk. No stand required, no need to wear anything. High recommended for this purpose. It's the mic Nuance should include with the software. So far, I've purchased six.

... but unless I use it like a "TV Pop star" (i.e. 'eating the mic') it doesn't pick up anything. for the price not even worth my time to send it back...

This microphone does an okay job of picking up the voices in meetings. The recordings are not as clear as I would have hoped for from this microphone. I will try to re-calibrate the microphone, but I don't think it will make a difference. The fact that it is attached to my laptop causes it to clearly pickup my typing, which is a bit annoying. I am going to buy a better microphone with more ratings (> 100) with 4+ stars.

Perfect for my older XP laptop. Looking forward to recording family history for my grandchildren.

easy to set up, sometimes people say they hear me ok , sometimes they say it's not loud enough even though I'm sitting just 2 feet away

Even when you speak directly into it, it hardly picks up a sound.

Works ok. But not with Cortana!
